Available for free on Apple and Android devices, the new and improved The Lancet mobile app offers Online Only and Print & Online subscribers rapid access to recently published content from The Lancet family of journals.

Non-subscribers can download the app for free and view article abstracts. Individual journal issues and annual app subscriptions can be purchased from the iTunes Store.

  1. Where can I download The Lancet app?
    The Lancet app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play store (for Android devices).
  2. Which journals are featured on The Lancet app?
    The Lancet app includes all titles in The Lancet portfolio of journals: The Lancet; The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health; The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology; The Lancet Global Health, The Lancet Haematology; The Lancet HIV; The Lancet Infectious Diseases; The Lancet Neurology; The Lancet Planetary Health; The Lancet Psychiatry; The Lancet Public Health; The Lancet Oncology; The Lancet Respiratory Medicine; EBioMedicine and EClinicalMedicine.
  3. How can I access the full text journal content from the app?
    If you are currently a subscriber to the journal, you can log in using the same username/email and password combination you use to access the journal content on TheLancet.com. Non-subscribers can purchase issues or an annual app subscription through the Apple iTunes Store.
  4. I’m a subscriber, what do I need in order to access the full features?
    You can log in using the same username and password combination you use to access the journal content on TheLancet.com. If you don’t have a username and password, you can get one by first going to the TheLancet.com to register for an account and claiming access to your subscription. This one-time process only takes a few minutes. After you have an account, you can login in the app to gain access to the journal content.
  5. Can I access the app using my proxy server or TPS login?
    These types of access are not currently supported. If you currently access the journal web site via TPS, you can register for an account on the journal web site and then use this new account to gain full text access in this app.
  6. Can I receive notifications on my device when new issues are available?
    Yes, if you can turn on notifications within the app by tapping the "Setting" icon (iPad) or going to the "Settings" menu (iPhone) and then to "Push Notifications". You can also choose to have the app automatically download issues as soon as they are available. This feature called "Automatic Downloads" can be turned on by tapping the "Settings" icon (iPad) or going to the "Settings" menu (iPhone) and then to "Push Notifications".
  7. What past issues are available?
    Past issues are available back through the start of 2011 in the app for both current journal subscribers as well as annual subscriptions purchased through the iTunes Store.
  8. How can I download journal issues?
    Full text of articles are downloaded for each full issue when you ask to do so by tapping the Download Issue button. Until then, only the tables of contents and/or abstracts are available. You can continue to work while issues download in the background, reading articles that have been downloaded to that point.
  9. How can I find out how much of an issue remains to be downloaded?
    The download icon will show a number over it when articles are downloading. Tap the download icon (iPad) or Download section (iPhone menu) at any time to check the progress of the download.
  10. Can I delete content that I download to the app?
    You can delete issues, articles, and/or multimedia from this app to reduce the amount of space used by the app's journal content on your device. Tap the "Setting" icon (iPad) or go to the "Settings" menu (iPhone) and then to "Usage" to delete downloaded content. You can also delete issues from your device from the "All Issues" screen. Articles in your reading list and those with notes will not be deleted.
  11. How can I read articles offline?
    You can download issues and Articles in Press/Online First articles to read. Once downloaded, these will be available to read offline. Articles saved to your reading list are always available offline. They will not be deleted when issues are deleted. To read PDFs offline, each must be downloaded. Once downloaded, it will be available to read offline.
  12. How can I add articles to my reading list to read offline?
    Tap the star icon (iPad) or the "Add to Reading List" button (iPhone) to add an article to your reading list.
  13. Are articles in my reading list also saved to the journal web site or to my other devices?
    No, this is not currently available. Articles in your reading list are only available in the app on this device.
