Afro-Norwegian (Norwegian: Afro-Norsk) or Black-Norwegian (Norwegian: Svart Nordmann) are people of African descent with total or partial ancestry from any of the black racial groups of Sub-Saharan Africa, living in Norway.
Demographics[edit]
In Norway there are 115,000 people of Sub-Saharan African descent, respectively; primarily composed of refugees and their descendants, but this is only the numbers for first generation migrants and second generation migrants with two parents from a different country. There are no official numbers in Norway regarding Afro-Norwegians, as Norway does not have census regarding race or ethnicity. However, Norway collects data on migrants up to the second generation, which can be used to accurately estimate the effective Black population. [2]
The biggest Sub-Saharan African ethnicity group in Norway are Somalis, 37.63 % of all Afro-Norwegians are of Somali descent.[3] There are 71,727 non-Somali Afro-Norwegians in Norway, making up 1.32% of the population in the country. Other Afro-Norwegian groups includes diffrent ethnic groups from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and other groups from the Sub-Saharan part of Africa, or people who have ethnic roots from the region.[4]
