Music Alive Program

Empowering Canada’s rural, Indigenous, and underserved
communities through music and the arts.

Since 2006, the NAC Music Alive Program has inspired and encouraged active participation in the arts to foster creativity, personal growth, and healthy communities, particularly in rural and remote regions of Canada.

Through partnerships, community consultations, multi-year programming, and the leadership of local artists, the MAP aims to provide a comprehensive, accessible, and youth-centred music program that celebrates and gives a voice to Canada’s diverse communities and Indigenous cultures

Our Four Key Programming Goals

  • Empowering Children and Youth Through the Arts
  • Enriching Communities Through Music-Making
  • Building Leadership Capacity Among Educators and Musicians
  • Celebrating Local Culture and Local Artists

The Music Alive Program has reached over 125,000 students, teachers, and community members in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, and Atlantic Canada.

More than 550 schools have participated in the program! 60 to 80 artists are involved with Music Alive events annually, more than half of whom are Indigenous.

“Our students have gained a new appreciation for classical and indigenous cultural music.... A wonderful and very important teaching and learning experience for all staff and students. Thank you.”

Bring music into children’s lives

Your donations help the Music Alive Program reach more students, educators and communities across Canada. The National Youth and Education Trust is the NAC’s primary source of funding for initiatives that nurture and develop the creativity of children and youth, and support the educators and artists who challenge and encourage them.
