Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source[edit]

Tips for finding a source yourself[edit]

  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
  • If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request[edit]

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Times of India, The Hindu, and other articles from English newspapers in India about Embassy of India School Moscow? (articles may be available from the UCLA library)[edit]

For Embassy of India School Moscow (a.k.a. Kendriya Vidyalaya Moscow)

I'm trying to see if databases of English language newspapers of India such as Times of India, The Hindu, etc. have articles about the establishment of the Embassy of India School Moscow. The school was established in 1987, so the initial articles should be sometime in the 1980s.

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 12:40, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

EDIT: I found the Library of Congress has access to The Hindu but only from people at the LOC site. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:03, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
EDIT 2: I found that East View Information Services and University of California Los Angeles have copies of the Moscow News, an English language paper. The newspaper was active in 1987 so I imagine it would have an article about the opening of such a school. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:05, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@WhisperToMe I have access to the (Proquest) archives of The Times of India as well as The Hindustan Times; will run a search tomorrow. The archives of The Hindu is digitized but not accessible by public; I will ask one of my acquintances, who work for the newspaper, to see if anything comes up. I also have access to the archives of The Pravda but need some time to run a search. TrangaBellam (talk) 18:57, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! WhisperToMe (talk) 18:58, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
TrangaBellam & WhisperToMe, any luck with this? --Usernameunique (talk) 08:28, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Replying in t/p. TrangaBellam (talk) 11:09, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

GenealogyBank[edit]

Looking for someone who might be able to access GenealogyBank to help in the verification of citations in Ray Byars and Tommy Byars. Pretty much all of the citations in both articles are apparently to old newspaper articles found on GenealogyBank, which requires registration to access. I understand this is a bit of an unorthodox request, but there are so many of these citations in both articles, listing them individually would end up being quite a list.

Thanks, Marchjuly (talk) 22:38, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Marchjuly: it looks like GenealogyBank allows for a 7-day free trial of the "don't forget to cancel before they charge you"-variety. I'd be willing to sign up, download/screenshot, and send over some, but I'm not willing to do so for the ~80 sources across those two articles. Would it be helpful to you to spot check ~20 or so? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 05:26, 20 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you so much for the reply Firefangledfeathers and my apologies for not responding sooner. I don't think there's any one particular ciation that needs to be examined, it would just be helpful to know whether the GB site works like newspaper.com in which the entire paper is uploaded or whether people are uploading cutouts of newspaper articles. One of the problems is the the person citing GB stated that she might have paraphrased the titles of some articles so that they can be used as citations for different content. For example, Ray Byars#cite_note-10 and Ray Byars#cite_note-12 as well as Ray Byars#cite_note-33, Ray Byars#cite_note-48 and Ray Byars#cite_note-49 may be examples of paraphrasing in which she's actually citing the same articles twice and thrice respectively in those two cases but is trying to cite different parts of the articles for different content. If she's jsut citing the same articles over and over gain, then some cleanup could probably be done per WP:REFNAME. If this is what she's done at "Ray Byars", then she probaly did the same at Tommy Byars. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:05, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Marchjuly, I'll start my free trial sometime in the next few days when I know I have some time available to spend on it. I'll start with the potential duplicates you mentioned. If you have any others that you'd like prioritized, please let me know, else I might go by chance or whim. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 08:42, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please work at your own pace Firefangledfeathers. There's no deadline to meet and any improvements you can make would be most appreciated whenever you make them. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:21, 27 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

First and Ten: Pro Football Players Born in Italy[edit]

I requested for this back in August, but it was archived with no reply - here it is again:

  • Batella, Fausto (2017). First and Ten: Pro Football Players Born in Italy. SPORTeBOOK. ISBN 9788894161861.

I would appreciate if someone could show me what the book says about Frank Gaziano and Pete Gorgone so I could create articles on them. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:21, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

BeanieFan11, do the portions visible on Google Books help? --Usernameunique (talk) 09:10, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm... taking another look, it seems they do give me access to the part about Gaziano, although Gorgone I still cannot see. BeanieFan11 (talk) 13:12, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, @BeanieFan11, probably the reason nobody can find this book is because it is actually self-published through CreateSpace publishing. I wouldn't consider this a reliable source. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:05, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Eddie891: Though, it says here (also google books) that it was through the publisher "SPORTeBOOK" (also, it lists a different isbn there then from the one at your link). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@BeanieFan11, the connection between 'Fausto Batella' and SPORTeBOOK's owner of 'studio batella' reeks of self-publishing as does the fact that all the books they have published are by the same guy, as does my complete inability to find any commentary on any books by this publisher. I'd say either unreliable or self-published, and probably both, unfortunately. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:22, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Eddie891: Well, even if it is self-published, from what I'm seeing, Batella probably could be considered a "subject-matter expert" on Italian football - there's an article discussing him and his books from the magazine OnMilwaukee here, and it seems he was a prominent member of the Pro Football Researchers Association, with their magazine, The Coffin Corner, publishing an obituary on him when he died in 2019 ([1]). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:36, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's a fair enough argument to make. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:58, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pierre Berthelot, Duplessis est encore en vie[edit]

The French version of this article says that apparently, while travelling from Quebec City to Schefferville just before his death, Maurice Duplessis stopped on the border of Labrador on the Quebec side and urinated in the general direction of Newfoundland to protest what Quebeckers consider an illegal land grab of (parts of) Labrador by the Newfies (see also Newfoundland and Labrador-Quebec border). A lot of sources listed there are not exactly the ones I would use due to quality concerns, but this one definitely is good. The question I have is whether this source states that this indeed happened or whether it is just an artistic invention of a TV series. The page in this book is unfortunately not given in the article, and I have no idea where this could be. Also, I have doubts about the issue because Conrad Black, who wrote an extensive biography, says that he flew there, so he couldn't have done that mid-air. Pinging Danalieth as the author of the passage. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 13:13, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

For Maurice Duplessis, potentially also Newfoundland and Labrador-Quebec border.

  • Lewis, Clive. "Mere Christiantity". {{cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= (help)

I would like to expand Wikiquote's page C.S. Lewis. To be specific, I would like to add more to this quote like one of the preceding sentences or sentences coming after: He [the devil] always sends errors into the world in pairs—pairs of opposites. And he always encourages us to spend a lot of time thinking which is the worse. You see why, of course? He relies on your extra dislike of the one error to draw you gradually into the opposite one. But do not let us be fooled. We have to keep our eyes on the goal and go straight through between both errors. We have no other concern than that with either of them. Mere Christianity Book IV, chapter 6, "Two Notes" [2]https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/C._S._Lewis#Mere_Christianity_(1952) I would like to request chapter 6. Article from Le Monde (English) 25 Feb 2023[edit]

Dodger67, I have access to the full article, which I've just sent you by wikimail, but it is in French. I have no access to the English version. USA Today archive? College football Top 25 poll articles from 1982-1990[edit]

Is there an digital archive of USA Today?

I'm looking for articles related to the "Top 25" college football poll they ran from their launch in 1982 until their takeover of the Coaches Poll in 1991.

Especially:

  • announcement of the poll in August/September(?) 1982
  • mentions of the trophy they awarded each year (and when the trophy was created)
  • addition of CNN to the poll in 1983
  • announcement of the USA Today takeover of the Coaches Poll in 1991.
  • "USA Today Top 25 college football polls". USA Today. 1982–1990.{{cite journal}}: CS1 maint: date format (link)

For USA Today / CNN Top 25

Thanks, PK-WIKI (talk) 18:03, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@PK-WIKI: USA Today has been archived by NewsBank from 1987. The database is widely available at US research university libraries, and through some US public libraries. Searches for expressions like "CNN Top 25" or "Coaches Poll" return a large number of results. Finding any about the history/structure/workings/etc. of the poll as opposed to merely mentioning the week's poll results or where a particular team placed, is tedious, and would best be done by someone passionate about the topic (i.e. not me). However, if you email me, I can send you: "Coaches' football poll makes debut Friday". USA Today. August 20, 1991. p. 1C.. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Access to an Ecuadorian tale in the Chachi language and its Spanish-language translation[edit]

  • Añapa, Juan Bautista Añapa (2003). Chachi: Lala´ cha´kuinda, naa na chumu juhua ju´bain naa chaibain. Indio Hilfe. pp. 299-303 (Spanish translation). (Tale titled "Inecita (Inés)").

For La Fada Morgana (Catalan folk tale) and Pájaro Verde (Mexican folktale).

Checking a preview of the book in googlebooks, the tale makes reference to motifs that appear in other Latin American variants of tale type ATU 425B, "Son of the Witch" ("The Witch's Tasks"), in regards to the heroine's tasks. Depending on its contents, I'll be moving the Latin American variants to another article.

@Schminnte: I don't have access to the Business Standard article, but it appears that it is republished from Bloomberg (which is listed next to the byline), so you may be interested in the original Bloomberg article by Katya Kazakina. My guess, based on the preview, is that these are the same article (with the exception of the first line, for some reason). DanCherek (talk) 22:50, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! I had looked around for the Bloomberg article but as the name was different I couldn't find it Schminnte (talk contribs) 07:45, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bournoutian (1992)[edit]

  • Bournoutian, George A. (1992). The Khanate of Erevan under Qajar Rule, 1795–1828. pp. xxvii+355.

As many pages as possible, starting from the first page, would be sincerely appreciated. I need the book for articles such as Erivan Khanate, Qajar Iran, etc.

NRL Test and Evaluation Report 109, or any information on AN/SPS-48B.[edit]

  • Grady, D. F.; Dahl, W. D.; Orsino, R.J. (Feb 1970), "AN/SPS-48B Operational Program Baseline Tests", NRL Test and Evaluation Report 109, Naval Research Laboratory

For AN/SPS-48, the AN/SPS-48B is in this odd spot where there's a bunch of references to it *existing* on things, but nobody ever actually stops to say what it was or what the changes were. This is probably something where there's one copy sitting in some filing cabinet in the bowels of the U.S. Government, but anything helps if y'all can get ahold of something useful.
