Vaccination and haematological malignancies
The Lancet Infectious Diseases
Published: February 7, 2019
Haematological malignancies increase the risk of infection, but the pathology of these malignancies and their treatments complicate infection management. Some of the infections are vaccine preventable; therefore, this is an avenue that should be considered, although it is not straightforward since the approach differs due to the nature of the malignancy, the treatment, the infection, and the vaccine.
Tuberculosis transmission in HIV-endemic settings

For many complex reasons tuberculosis has the unenviable position of being the leading infectious cause of death, but a notable reason is that much about it is still unknown, particularly in relation to its transmission.
Sexually transmitted infections: challenges ahead
The Lancet Infectious Diseases
Published: July 9, 2017
The World Health Organisation estimates that nearly one million people become infected every day with any of four curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs): chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. Despite their high global incidence, STIs remain a neglected area of research.
Sepsis: a roadmap for future research
The Lancet Infectious Diseases
Published: April 20, 2015
Sepsis is a common and lethal syndrome: although outcomes have improved, mortality remains high. No specific anti-sepsis treatments exist; as such, management of patients relies mainly on early recognition allowing correct therapeutic measures to be started rapidly, including administration of appropriate antibiotics, source control measures when necessary, and resuscitation with intravenous fluids and vasoactive drugs when needed.
