Ice District is a $2.5 billion mixed-use sports and entertainment district currently being developed on 25 acres of land in Downtown, Edmonton, Alberta. [1]

Landmarks[edit]

Rogers Place[edit]

Rogers Place, the future home arena for the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL, will be the main attraction of the district. Opening in 2016, it will seat 18,500 people for hockey games.[2] The cost of the arena is expected to be $480 million. [3]

Winter garden[edit]

A 34,000 square foot, climate-controlled facility will span 104 Avenue. It will be a public gathering space and will connect the LRT with the grand entrance of Rogers Place. There will also be a pedway connection to the new Delta Hotel. It is expected to open in September 2016 at a cost of $56.5 million. [4]

Two new office buildings[edit]

Two new office buildings will be built in the district. Stantec Tower, the new headquarters of Stantec, will be the tallest building in Edmonton at 66 storeys [5] high and at a height of 250.8 metres. Thirty-three storeys will be for residential units. [6] The City of Edmonton is building a 27-storey office building. It is expected to open in fall of 2016. [7]

MacEwan LRT Station[edit]

The district will be served by LRT at MacEwan Station, located just north of Rogers Place.[8]

Public plaza[edit]

There will be a 50,000 square feet public plaza. [9]

Four-star hotel[edit]

In 2018, Delta Hotels will be opening a 56 storey, 362 room hotel. [10]

Community arena[edit]

The Edmonton Downtown Community Arena will be the home arena of the MacEwan University Griffins hockey teams, and will host practices for the Oilers and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. It will have a seating capacity of 1000. [11]

Grand Villa Edmonton Casino[edit]

Currently known as the Baccarat Casino, it will be moving in summer of 2016 into a new 125,000 square feet facility next to Rogers Place. [12]

Cineplex theatre[edit]

Located on 103 Street between 103 Avenue and 104 Avenue, it will have two large format screens and five licensed VIP screens. There will also be a lounge.[13]
