QazCovid-in, commercially known as QazVac,[1][2] is a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems in Kazakhstan.[3][4][5]

Clinical research[edit]

It is currently in Phase 3 (III) of Clinical Trial and the trial is expected to be fully completed by July 9.[6][7] It is unclear when the first preliminary results will be published.[8][9]

The administration of the vaccine for general population will start by end April.[10] Director General of the Research Institute Kunsulu Zakarya justification's is that the trial is almost at 50% and "people who have received our vaccine feel well, there have been no side-effects, and the effectiveness of the vaccine is high".[11]

Production[edit]

The vaccine has been first manufactured at the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems. The capacity has been limited to 50,000 doses per month.

"Somewhen in June [2021]" the vaccine substance [12] will be put in large bulk to be bottled in Turkey by a "major Turkish company".[13][14] This will allow a capacity of 500,000-600,000 doses per month.[15] The contract is still being negotiated,[16] despite earlier claims that suggested a contract was already signed.[17][18]

Vaccine innoculation[edit]

The first batch of 50,000 doses has been delivered on April 26, 2021, and vaccination has started at the same time.[19] In June the capacity will increase to 100,000 doses per month, regardless if the contract for bottling in Turkey is signed.[20]

Authorization[edit]

  Full authorization
  Emergency authorization

Characteristics[edit]

The vaccine can be stored at fridge temperature, i.e. 2°C-8°C. It's a two-dose regime and the doses are administered 21 days apart.[21]
