  1. Determine if you’re eligible

Physicians working in licensed rural dispensaries in Yukon must hold a rural permit and renew it every year. A rural permit will allow you to:

    • compound;
    • dispense; or
    • sell medications.

Renew your permit if you're planning to:

    • use the title of rural permit holder; and
    • work to the full extent of Yukon regulations.

    Renewal period

All rural permits expire annually on March 31. Submit your renewal application before March 1. This ensures we can process your permit before it expires.

If we receive your renewal application after March 1, you'll need to pay a late fee of $200. If you do not renew your licence by March 31, you must apply for reinstatement and pay a reinstatement fee.

It’s illegal to work in the new permit year before we've renewed your permit.

    Eligibility

You’re eligible to renew your rural permit if you meet the following requirements:

    • you hold a current rural permit for Yukon; and
    • you hold a current medical or specialist licence in Yukon and are in good standing with the Yukon Registrar of Medical Practitioners.

If you’ve had any complaints, disciplinary or criminal action against you, please note:

    • we will assess your eligibility for registration or licensure on a case-by-case basis; and
    • you may not be approved for registration or licensing.

  2. Complete the renewal application form

Complete all sections of the renewal application form. Do not leave a section blank. You may enter “not applicable” when it's relevant. We may return incomplete applications.

  3. Provide all other supporting documents required

You must also submit a criminal record check with your application package.

    Criminal record checks

    • You must have new criminal record and vulnerable sector checks done every 3 years.
    • Visit your local RCMP detachment or police to request these.
    • The RCMP or police must complete the checks no more than 90 days before you submit your application.
    • Ask the RCMP to:
      • send the results to your mailing address; or
      • make the results available for you to pick up.
    • Make sure to then submit the results with your complete application package.
