  5. Testimonials

I work for the Department of Health and Social Services as a social worker. I use French almost every day to assist francophone clients as they navigate social services.

I have accessed French training in both group class and individualized training formats. I have found that the support and training I received has increased my fluidity and comfort in French (my clients have even provided positive feedback).

The instructors are friendly and kind, and deliver the material in a very engaging way.  Even though the pandemic has changed the format, I have found that it is a pleasure to meet with my fellow students on Zoom. French class has become one of the highlights of my week.

Brenda, Mobile Social Worker, Department of Health and Social Services

I have been taking French classes through the program for YG employees for more than ten years. I started in Débutant 2, worked my way through the levels, and currently am in the last level, where I will probably stay until I retire!

I work in a workplace where I use my French to reply to emails written by francophones and in person as well. I have had francophone clients tell me how much it means to them to be able to speak French when they come to our office and that makes all my work learning French worth it!

I highly recommend taking French classes. It’s a great opportunity to brush up on language skills, but it has also really broadened my perspectives.

Shannon, Library Technician, Department of Energy, Mines and Resources

  6. Safety measures for in-person classes

We will implement the following measures to keep everyone safe during in-person classes:

    • Classes are limited to 8 learners.
    • Learners work at separate tables, 2 meters apart.
    • Learners and instructors have to wash or disinfect hands before entering the classroom.
    • Shared surfaces and items are reduced to a minimum and disinfected before and after every class.
    • Movement in the classroom is reduced to a minimum.
    • The kitchen is not accessible to learners.
    • Learners and instructors will not come to class if they or someone in their household is sick.
    • Learners and instructors will not come to class if they or someone in their household has travelled outside of Yukon in the past 14 days.
    • Everyone must wear a mask when entering and leaving the classroom. Masks can be removed when everyone is seated.
    • Should the public health situation change in Yukon, we will deliver all in-person classes on Zoom for the rest of the session.
