Les EssentiElles

Les EssentiElles aims to improve the quality of life of Francophone Yukon women while meeting their needs and representing their interests at the territorial and national levels. They also:

  • help create solidarity between French, English and First Nations women in Yukon;
  • work with Yukon and national organizations to improve women's conditions; and
  • provide resources to French women living in a minority setting.

Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society

The Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS) is a non-profit, charitable, community-based, aboriginal organization providing social development services to the Kaska Nation in the Yukon and northern British Columbia. Members of the society:

  • work to heal the legacy of physical and sexual abuse in residential schools;
  • serve the 5 Kaska communities of Good Hope Lake, Fort Ware, Lower Post, Watson Lake and Ross River;
  • offer counselling and training and traditional healing programs; and
  • host a camp at Frances Lake where cultural activities take place.

Public Service Alliance of Canada's (PSAC) Whitehorse Regional Women’s Committee (RWC)

These committees provide advice and advocacy on regional concerns of women represented by the union.

Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre

A local non-government, non-profit organization that offers programming, advocacy and support to women throughout the Yukon. The Centre is directed by a coordinating collective and is staffed by a program coordinator, a women's advocate, an administration assistant and occasional project staff.

Drop-in hours: 11 am to 3 pm weekdays | 5 pm to 8 pm on weekends, and Fridays.

Whitehorse Aboriginal Women’s Circle

This non-profit, community-based society provides a platform for all Aboriginal women to voice their concerns and to seek support and guidance from each another. The board participates in community events that promote wellness and healing. Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month.

Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council

The Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council’s work:

  • advances the interests of women of Indigenous or Inuit ancestry in the Yukon including Status, Non-Status, Indigenous peoples and Metis;
  • supports and enforces the civil and human rights of all Indigenous women in Yukon and Northern B.C.;
  • helps Indigenous women increase their feeling of adequacy and their sense of self through planning, developing and managing self-help projects;
  • encourages Indigenous women to assume a more positive and active part in developing skills to support their people;
  • promotes and aids in the development and preservation of Indigenous culture, arts and handicrafts; and
  • remains non-partisan in its activities and dealings with governments and political parties of Canada.

Yukon Status of Women Council

An advocacy and awareness group for local and national women's issues. The council has been operating for over 30 years and is a strong lobbyist for feminist political change through political activism, public awareness and education.
