Launched in October 2013, Curio.ca is CBC and Radio-Canada’s online subscriber-based streaming service developed expressly for the Canadian educational community, including school boards, government ministries, universities, colleges and cégeps, and public libraries. Curio.ca currently reaches over two million students across Canada.

Our collection features thousands of programs and hundreds of teacher resource guides carefully curated to support provincial K-12 curricula and post-secondary courses across the country. Curio.ca gives teachers and students 24/7 access to a wealth of primary-source content in English and French. It’s a great tool to help students develop critical-thinking skills. Every week, we add new content selected for its educational relevance, always commercial-free, including the latest from CBC’s award-winning documentary, news, drama, and children's programming (e.g. The Nature of Things, The Fifth Estate and The National).

News in Review
Curio.ca features News in Review, Canada's premier current-event series for the classroom. Hosted by the CBC reporter Michael Serapio, News in Review is the only resource that gives students the opportunity to delve into today's most important events as they unfold. Each story also comes with a teacher resource guide that teases out key concepts and questions.
Teacher Resource Guides
Our Teacher Resource Guides support many key programs and series, in addition to News in Review.
A favourite of teachers nationwide is the recently created guide How to Use Video Effectively in the Classroom, available in both English and French.
Search and Sharing
Teachers and students searching for a specific story can choose from drop-down lists of shows, categories and collections, as well as simple or advanced search engines.
Teachers can create and save playlists for their lesson plans and easily integrate content into their institution’s courseware.
Closed Captioning
As of September 2014 we began adding closed captioning to our programs. Most newly added programs feature captioning as do a selection of legacy titles. This feature will expand to all Curio.ca programming over time.
Curriculum Correlations
Our enhanced curriculum correlations help teachers quickly and precisely identify the content they seek. Curio.ca programming is automatically correlated to specific course options in all K-12 provincial curricula from coast to coast.
Single sign-on (SSO)
A simple SSO solution is available allowing two kinds of access to Curio.ca: anonymous access for students and registered access for teachers.
Anonymous access is generally granted for a 24-hour period. Registered access is limited to one access per account (no sharing is possible).
MARC Records
The Curio.ca catalogue’s MARC records and enriched metadata allow library and technical staff to seamlessly import data into their library systems.
Subscribers have the option of either generating a full list of MARC records or limiting their selection by customized date range. Records can also be viewed or downloaded individually at the bottom of each program page.
Reporting
Curio.ca offers an advanced tool for data analytics, including real-time reporting for page views, content play and user visits.
Dashboards offer a summary of many reports on a single page, presenting the most important performance indicators, including monthly statistics, most requested content, most active IP addresses and users. Easy customization is also an option.
Monthly Newsletters and Catalogue
Monthly Curio.ca newsletters inform subscribers of the latest program additions, platform feature updates, news and events.

Subscribing to Curio.ca
To request a quote on a yearly subscription to the Curio.ca platform, please fill out our Subscription Quote Request Form.
Your yearly subscription provides access to all computers within your organization's walls. From there you can administer passwords to your internal groups as you define them.
Subscriptions are automatically renewed on a yearly basis. You will be notified 60 days before your renewal takes effect.
The price for a subscription to the Curio.ca streaming platform varies according to the size of your organization.
If you are an instructor or student looking for streaming access to Curio.ca, please contact your school librarian or district resource centre. If your institution has already subscribed, they will be able to provide you with the necessary login information. Public library patrons should check with library staff.
