Bahraini uprising[edit]

Bahraini uprising is not a military conflict. so it should be removed from here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3bdulelah (talkcontribs) 17:46, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Middle East vs. East and South Asia[edit]

Most of our categories seem to reflect "Middle East". Would any one mind if I changed it back to that? Juno (talk) 23:22, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct that Middle East and West Asia is almost interchangeable, even though there are some issues whether including Egypt and Caucasus. However in practice, we find out many people have no idea where is Middle East and how it is defined. In the past people tended to add central Asia and North Africa conflicts as "Middle Eastern" all the time, which created a lot of work to correct it. Now it is much more stable.GreyShark (dibra) 12:44, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tricky point that, with the Caucuses. Would it be worthwhile to just defer to what ever the wiki-consensus definition of the regions are at the moment or are those foggy too? Juno (talk) 07:38, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The most common geographical consensus is using West Asia and not Middle East (which is also very much Eurocentric by the way, which many people don't like).GreyShark (dibra) 16:34, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I mean this in the most collegiate of ways; could you point to such a consensus? I can by no means claim a broad survey, but I mostly seem to see "Middle East". Juno (talk) 20:37, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Juno: and @Greyshark09:: I've seen it done before with more complicated boxes, but perhaps we could have "Middle East" as a partial section, and mess around with the wording so that we get Africa and West Asia to touch so that they're in "Middle East," but also in Asia/Africa? For sort of examples of what I'm saying, see: Template:Navbox with columns#Using child navboxes. Here's a crudely painted example of what I mean [1] Cnd474747 (talk) 23:47, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict endings[edit]

This template is applying to the rules of the main page List of ongoing military conflicts and hence it is also applying to the definition of when the conflicts end - "Listed conflicts are at least 100 cumulative deaths in total and at least 1 death in current or past calendar year." Iraqi conflict created thousands of deaths during 2017, so putting an end date to it is a wishful thinking, regardless of various announcements. Unfortunately most conflict "ends" turn out to be false.GreyShark (dibra) 16:02, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Knowledgekid87: this includes the Second Afar insurgency.18:43, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
