There is an urgent need to address the structural causes of the long-standing and pronounced inequalities faced by Indigenous peoples today. We recognize that the U of A has been part of historic systems that have created barriers to Indigenous sovereignty and wellness.

In addressing this history, this plan takes steps towards a thoughtful, respectful, meaningful, and sustainable response to the Calls to Action issued by the TRC and Indigenous Initiatives more broadly.

It is a guide that reflects the collective voices of our community, and will serve as an actionable blueprint to promote and foster Indigenous scholarship, support Indigenous faculty, staff and students and move the institution towards Decolonial Indigenization.

The ISP is for everyone; we are all Treaty People. Reconciliation brings us closer to the relationship imagined in the treaties. The plan is about building better relationships with Indigenous communities that are equal, respectful, and mutual.
