Featured and good topics in Wikipedia

This star symbolizes the featured topic candidates on Wikipedia.
GA icon symbolizing Good topic candidates on Wikipedia.
A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).

A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic.

This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the featured and good topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured/good topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured and good topic candidates.

Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured and good topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly.

The featured and good topics director, GamerPro64, or his delegates Aza24 and Bryan Rutherford, determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived.

To contact the FTC director and delegates, please leave a message on the FTC talk page, or use the {{@FTC}} notification template elsewhere.

Nomination procedure[edit]

To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button.

Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic. For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure.

Supporting and objecting[edit]

Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured and good topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.

  • To edit nominations in order to comment on them, you must click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination on which you wish to comment (not the overall page's "edit this page" link).
  • If you approve of a nomination, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons. Supports that clearly evaluate the criteria will be weighted more than those that do not.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Oppose''' or '''Object''' followed by the reason for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to fix the source of the objection, the objection may be ignored.
    • To withdraw an objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it.

For a topic to be promoted to featured or good topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. The FGTC delegates are usually the ones to assess this consensus and close FGTC discussions. If there is a consensus to promote, the promote instructions are located here. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate.

Jane Severance[edit]

Jane Severance is an American author of children's literature and an educator. She has published three books for young readers, including her first work, When Megan Went Away (1979), the first children's picture book to include LGBT characters. Her works, all of which include lesbian characters, deal with parental separation (When Megan Went Away), non-nuclear communal parenting (Lots of Mommies, 1983), and parental alcoholism (Ghost Pains, 1992).

This proposed good topic covers the pioneering author Jane Severance and her two notable works. Her third book hasn't been written about in more than passing since its release in 1992, so at this point I don't believe it meets the WP:GNG. If it ever does receive greater coverage (or if Severance publishes any further works that do) then they would be suitable for addition to this topic. However, this topic currently encompasses a complete and coherent set of articles related to Severance and her work based on all available information on her. Thanks! --—Collint c 23:40, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Support: It doesn't look like there's been much published commentary on "Ghost Pains"; I could only find one interview with the author in which that book was a minority of what was discussed. If any of her other works reach notability, it would need to be supplemented. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 01:38, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

2005–06 Arsenal F.C. season[edit]

The 2005–06 season was the 108th in the competitive history of Arsenal Football Club. It began on 1 July 2005 and concluded on 30 June 2006, with competitive matches played between August and May. It was the final season that Arsenal played at Highbury (Arsenal Stadium), before moving to the Emirates Stadium the following season. Under Arsène Wenger, Arsenal finished the season in fourth, whilst also reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League. The final, which Arsenal lost against Barcelona, is the only UCL final that Arsenal have reached.

Please let me know if I've nominated this incorrectly, first time, rather intricate process. This topic was sitting in the Task force for quite some time completed, all articles were GA approved some time ago, but from a quick inspection everything looks okay. Confessions on a Dance Floor[edit]

Confessions on a Dance Floor is the tenth studio album by American singer and songwriter Madonna. It was released on November 9, 2005, by Warner Bros. Records. A complete departure from her previous studio album American Life (2003), the album includes influences of 1970s disco and 1980s electropop, as well as modern-day club music.

Demoted in 2020 once one of the articles lost GA status, with another suffering the same fate later, everything's back in order now, so a reinstatement as a Good Topic shouldn't be an issue. --igordebraga 03:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Support: Appears to be back to all GAs. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 15:07, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Comment: Idolator is not italic, on the other hand, NME is italic. Reliable sources all around, but I'm not sure about page six as a reliable source. I would not use Genius to cover a release date of a song, "Get Together". However, I have to point out that some sources have work and publisher but most only have one or the other, should be more consistent, for example, "Village Voice and Village Voice Media", also wikilink Pitchfork and The Guardian. I have yet to cross-check the album. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 14:03, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Topic removal candidates[edit]

God of War franchise[edit]

Fails criterion 3.b as God of War Ragnarök is not a WP:GA, isn't being worked on, and is past the three month grace period (game was released on 9 November 2022)). Armbrust The Homunculus 22:22, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've decided to momentarily withdraw my vote pending the outcome of Ragnarök's current GAN. Cat's Tuxedo (talk) 04:35, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hold for the GA nomination. It's good to see this being worked on. Shooterwalker (talk) 03:36, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alasdair Cochran[edit]

A new book by Cochrane, Sentientist Politics, was released in 2018 but never passed GA and a removal nomination was never made despite it certainly belongs as part of the topic thus failing 1.d. Pinging original nominator @J Milburn:.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 04:15, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Remove: Looks as though he's got another, Should Animals Have Political Rights?, that hasn't even been started. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 17:08, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • The article on Sentientist Politics is basically ready for GA status (as the original reviewer said), but I appreciate that it hasn't been promoted. I assumed Should Animals (which is a shorter book) probably wouldn't be notable, but I see there have been a couple of reviews, so you're right that it should probably be a part of this topic. I've no objection to the removal. Josh Milburn (talk) 13:26, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • If you think Sentientist Politics is ready to be a GA, then it would be great if you wanted to nominate it and shepherd it through GAN! We're not looking to demote a topic if someone is actively working on saving it. -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:29, 8 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Remove: Despite being close to GA, per nominator, it is not GA. On top of that, his latest book doesn't have an article nor is near to being promoted to GA. Unless the nominator decides to start to create and improve an article for the latter book, this will be my vote. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 13:04, 16 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
