– Line 3 of the Cairo Metro extends from Kit-Kat to Rod El-Farag Corridor.[1]
– Circular light rail of the Kaohsiung Metro extends from Heart of Love River to Kaisyuan Park and completes the loop line.[2]- – Taiwan Railway Corporation takes over operations of Taiwan Railway from the Taiwan Railways Administration.[3]
– BNSF Railway takes over operations of Montana Rail Link.[4]
January 8 – Lines 18 and 50 of the Krakow tramway network extend from Papierni Prądnickich to Górka Narodowa.[5]- January 13 – Tri-Rail introduces shuttle service between Tri-Rail and Metrorail Transfer station and MiamiCentral.[6]

– Hokuriku Shinkansen scheduled extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga.[8]- – E8 Series Shinkansen scheduled introduction into operation. Maximum speed of Yamagata Shinkansen trains on the 320 km/h sections of the Tohoku Shinkansen line to increase from 275 km/h to 300 km/h.[9]
- March 24 – Extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway to Minō-Semba-Handaimae station and Minō-Kayano station.[10]
– Opening of Agra Metro.[11]- – Opening of Bhoj Metro.[12]
– Line 4 of SITEUR opening.[13]- – Line FA of the Tren Interoceánico will open.[14]
– Opening of Phase 1 of the Diagonal extension of the Barcelona Tram.[15]
– Scheduled MRT Orange Line opening.[16]- – The first section of the 2 Line of the Link light rail system in Seattle is expected to begin service, connecting the suburbs of Bellevue and Redmond. It is the third line in the light rail system and is expected to be extended to Seattle the following year.[17]
