The Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists
welcomes you to its website.

The Internet public application for the Lobbyists Registration System (LRS) was created as a result of the new Lobbyists Registration Act which came into force on January 31, 1996. Prior to this, registrations were done manually.

This site was developed by the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists in order to allow lobbyists to register as required by the federal legislation and to enable the Canadian public to search the Registry of Lobbyists easily. It also contains information related to the Act, the Regulation and the Lobbyists' Code of Conduct.

We hope that you will find this site useful. As we constantly try to improve the quality of our services, we invite you to contact the Office should you have any comments or suggestions to make regarding this site.

Message from the Registrar of Lobbyists

Lobbying is a legitimate part of our democratic system. People, organizations and businesses have the right to communicate, to decision makers, information and views on issues that are important to them. However, it is important that this happens in a transparent manner – that Canadians have the opportunity to know who is lobbying public office holders and in which context. The Lobbyists Registration Act and the Lobbyists' Code of Conduct set the Government of Canada framework for that transparency and my Office has a key role in ensuring that the systems and processes that support the Act and the Code work well.

One way of doing that is this website. By providing information on the Act, our roles, key people and the operations of the Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists we practice the transparency that we expect of the entire system.

Ensuring that the public interest is actively served through the Lobbyists Registration System is an ongoing and evolving process. We intend to update this site regularly to ensure that it contains information on our work such as decisions on specific issues, policies, questions, and our service standards.

We welcome your comments on how to make the Act and the Code work more effectively, just as we welcome your comments on how we can improve this website. Thank you for your interest.

Michael Nelson,
Registrar of Lobbyists
