Possible Postal Disruption: Explosives and Fireworks Info

In anticipation of a disruption in postal service, starting July 5, 2016 a confirmation of an approved explosives licence/permit will be emailed to applicants. For fireworks cards, an email confirmation of the license and an electronic copy of the licence will be provided to applicants. Alternately, approved licenses/permits can be picked up at one of our Explosives Regulatory Division Offices (telephone, email, fax, and addresses listed).

The Explosives Safety and Security Branch (ESSB) is responsible for administering the Explosives Act and regulations and pursuing the advancement of explosives safety and security technology. ESSB's main priority is the safety and security of the public and all the workers involved in the explosives industry in Canada.

Through the Explosives Regulatory Division, ESSB provides services and support to the members of the explosives industry including manufacturers, transporters, importers, sellers and users of explosives. As of 2008, sellers of explosives precursor chemicals, or restricted components, are required to be enrolled in a program administered through the Explosives Act.

The Canadian Explosives Research Laboratory conducts science and technology research related to the safety and security of explosives including blasting explosives, explosives precursors, fireworks, pyrotechnics, propellant powders and ammunition.
