'A CROSS BETWEEN A GOLD TOURNAMENT AND A CARNIVAL'

Justin Rose, the universe's first Olympic golf champion for 112 years, is feeling pretty good about his gold medal.

"Oh my God. That felt better than anything I've ever won. It was the best tournament I've ever done. It felt like a cross between a golf tournament and a carnival. It was unique, incredible," the 36-year-old Briton said.

"Coming up with that last pitch when I needed it was magical. Hopefully we've shown Brazil what golf is about. I'm glad it was close, not for my nerves, for golf. It took world-class golf to win today."

And that's from a man who has also won a Major.

NADAL WILL HAVE TO MAKE DO WITH ONE MEDAL
Rafael Nadal has been defeated in the bronze medal match of the men's singles. Kei Nishikori had only beaten the Spaniard once before today but was able to win comfortably in three sets: 6-2,6-7(1), 6-3.

While Nadal already has a few Olympic golds, one from Rio 2016, Nishikori has never before participated in an Olympic Games. Not bad for a first go!

NO GOLD FOR VENUS

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock have beaten Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram to win mixed doubles gold for the USA.

After winning three Olympic Games women's doubles titles and singles gold at Sydney 2000, this was the one tennis event that eluded Venus. A silver isn't too shabby though...

GYMNASTICS: ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL FOR MAX WHITLOCK AND SILVER FOR FELLOW BRIT LOUIS SMITH

The USA are about to win mixed doubles tennis gold.

But will it be Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram, or their final opponents Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock who win it?

The two US pairs are locked in a final-set tie break to decide the winner...

FRANCE GET CLOSE... BUT NO CIGAR

The USA men's basketball team has won by a whisker for the second game in succession, beating France 100-97, a couple of days after their 94-91 triumph against Serbia. Are the USA's opponents' getting closer to them, or are the Americans just easing off in the final few minutes? Guess we'll find out when the knockout phase starts in a couple of days time.

FIRST OLYMPIC GOLF CHAMPION FOR 112 YEARS

That's what Justin Rose can tell his grandchildren. The British golfer, who lit up the Olympic Golf Course on the first day with a hole in one, has now achieved something far bigger. Going into the final hole neck-and-neck with Henrik Stenson, Rose took advantage of a bogey from the Swede to sink his birdie putt and seal victory by two shots.

GOLFER JUSTIN ROSE WINS OLYMPIC GAMES GOLD FOR GREAT BRITAIN!

GOLDEN GIRL SIMONE DOES IT AGAIN

The USA's artistic gymnastics phenomenon Simone Biles has clinched her third title of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, becoming the first American to win gold on the vault.

BOLT UPDATE
Usain Bolt has tweeted his delight at his beloved Manchester United's victory in their season opener this morning.

The club won 3-1 with new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic getting on the scoreline. Good job he did too, as Bolt had threatened to be keeping his eyes on the Swedish striker.

THRILLER ON THE GOLF COURSE

We're onto the 18th hole at the Olympic Golf Course with Great Britain's Justin Rose and Sweden's Henrik Stenson tied on 15 under. We're in store for quite a finish.

PUERTO RICAN STARS CONGRATULATE FIRST-EVER MEDALLIST
Close observers of the gold medal winners' twitter mentions will notice how many of them have celebrity fans. It's not uncommon for NBA stars to congratulate Phelps on another gold, or for Richard Branson to big up his mate Bolt.

But when two 90s icons of pop culture tweet their joy over your achievment, that has got to feel pretty special. One can only imagine how Mónica Puig felt after winning gold in the women's singles and checking her phone to find these...

UNSTOPPABLE USA

The all-conquering USA men's basketball team are on course for another victory at Rio 2016. They are 55-46 ahead against France at half-time at Carioca Arena 1, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson top scoring with 13 points each.

GYMNASTICS: TWO BRAZILIANS JOIN TEAM GB GYMNAST ON THE PODIUM
Matt Whitelock has won his second medal of Rio 2016 in the men's floor exercise competition. He is joined on the podium by two Brazilians; Diego Hypolito and Arthur Mariano. As you can imagine, the home crowd went wild.

TUNE IN NOW: RAFAEL NADAL GOES FOR SECOND MEDAL IN RIO
The former world no.1 is on court hoping to add to the gold he won in the men's doubles on Friday. Nadal's opponent in this bronze medal match-up is the Japanese Kei Nishikori, who has only beaten him once in ten meetings.
