National outreach tour
November 2016 – Atlantic region
In late November, the Ombudsman traveled to the Atlantic region, in particular the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Ombudsman met with members of the business community to raise awareness of her role and to hear about issues they may have with services provided by the Canada Revenue Agency.

November 2016 – Prairie region
The Ombudsman was in the Prairies in early November. She gave several information sessions in Winnipeg, Regina, and Calgary, and had the opportunity to listen to and build relationships with tax professionals as well as with representatives from a seniors’ organization. She also met with the Ombudsman Saskatchewan, where both exchanged information about their respective roles, processes, challenges, and successes.

October 2016 – Ontario Region
In October, the Ombudsman toured eastern Ontario, with stops in Toronto, Peterborough, Belleville and Kingston, where she met with various stakeholders including a community organization representing newcomers to Canada. She was also invited as a guest speaker to the Chartered Professional Accountants Commodity Tax Symposium, an event that provided an opportunity to increase the visibility of her Office and to engage with tax professionals.

The 2015-2016 Annual Report of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman has been tabled in the House of Commons and is now available. The report provides a detailed look at the activities of the Ombudsman and her Office, key achievements, and outreach activities for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. National outreach tour
September 2016 – Iqaluit and Yellowknife
During her outreach tour through northern Canada, the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman spoke at the annual Nunavut Tradeshow and Conference. She also gave presentations to various groups, including accountants and tax lawyers, and learned about the unique service-related challenges that taxpayers face in that region.
