Nominations—Nature Inspiration Awards

How to Submit a Nomination

  • Complete the nomination form for the chosen category (see below)
  • You may submit an application or a nomination for a third party
  • Send the completed form to awards@mus-nature.ca
  • Deadline: April 28, 2017, at 11:59 pm, Pacific daylight time (UTC−07).

Selection Criteria

The Nature Inspiration Awards recognize individuals and organizations that, through their work or specific projects, encourage Canadians to

  • take an interest in natural history
  • create links with nature
  • contribute to the preservation of nature.

For each category, nominees will be assessed against the following criteria:

Leadership
Must have demonstrated initiative in the fields of natural sciences, environment or nature protection at a local, national or international scale.

Innovation
Must have used novel approaches in the implementation of actions or programmes for the benefit of nature.

Inspiration
Must have encouraged other people or organizations to get involved for the benefit of nature.

Supporting Documents

The person who submits a nomination, be it their own or that of a third party, is encouraged to provide supporting documents that illustrate the nominee's achievements.

Such supporting documents include one or more of the following:

  • one to five photos with the best resolution possible
  • one to five video files, or a link to a broadcasting site (such as YouTube) for a total duration of five minutes or less
  • one to three news articles, letters of recommendation or other written documents, totalling five normal pages maximum.

Email the supporting documents and nomination form to awards@mus-nature.ca.

Videos and large image files may be sent using a file-sharing site, such as these free ones: wetransfer.com, dropbox.com.

The documents submitted may be used by the museum for purposes of promotion of the Nature Inspiration Awards.

The museum does not disclose the nominees' personal contact information to the public.

Eligibility and Forms

Youth Award

  • Must be 17 years or younger on December 31, 2016
  • Must be a resident of Canada.

Nomination form: Youth (PDF)

Adult Award

  • Must be 18 years or older on December 31, 2015
  • Must be a resident of Canada

Nomination form: Adult (PDF)

Not-for-Profit Organization (Small and Medium) Award

  • Must be at least one year old on December 31, 2016
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 1 to 49 people
  • Must be a non-profit organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Nomination form: NPO (PDF)

Not-for-Profit Organization (Large) Award

Presented by Bruce Power.

  • Must be at least one year old on December 31, 2016
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 50 people or more
  • Must be a non-profit organization registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Business (Small and Medium) Award

  • Must be at least four years old on December 31, 2016
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 1 to 99 people
  • Must be a company incorporated with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Business (Large) Award

  • Must be at least four years old on December 31, 2016
  • Must have a Canadian head office
  • Must employ 100 people or more
  • Must be a company incorporated with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Important Note
The employees of the Canadian Museum of Nature (and its affiliated or related entities) and members of their family are not eligible to apply for the Nature Inspiration Awards. In this context, "family" means the spouse, partners, parents, children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
