Don’t Toss Those Veggies Just Yet! Make Colourful Stamps

Jun 13, 2019

Alexis Hillyard of Stump Kitchen is joined by Rosie to cut up some veggies, cover them with paint and get stamping! Things get messy (stamping on skin is just as fun as on paper, right?) and the two figure out what kind of fun shapes you can get from different vegetables.

What You'll Need:

  • vegetables (Alexis and Rosie used celery, peppers, apples, mushrooms, carrots and parsley)
  • non-toxic paint in a variety of colours
  • a large sheet of paper or something else to cover in your colourful stamps

How It's Done:

  1. Cut your vegetables to have a flat surface to put paint on. You can cut lengthwise, widthwise — feel free to experiment with your little one.
  2. Either dip your cut vegetable into a dish of paint, or paint it onto the surface. Alexis used her stump to put paint on half an apple to make sure none got into the hollowed core. By leaving the core empty, there is white space left in the middle and you’re left with a cool stamp!
  3. Stamp away! Cover your sheet of paper (or yourselves) in cool shapes. And if you use something leafy like parsley, have your little one play with lightly dabbing or dragging to see what effect that has.
