The Battle of Tokmak was a military engagement that was centered around the city of Tokmak, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, between the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. These military actions were the result of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1]

Incident[edit]

On the night of 27–28 February 2022, according to media reports, Russian military saboteurs who were part of sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the territory of Ukraine and previously stole a military uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from one of the military depots, went into battle with the Ukrainian military.[2][3][4]

According to the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security, military battles took place that night between Russian saboteurs dressed into Ukrainian uniform and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russians were identified because they wore bulletproof vests of the Russian army.[5][6]

Consequences[edit]

According to the Zaporizhzhya Military Administration, as a result of the confrontation, Russia lost a large number of personnel and retreated to the southern outskirts of Tokmak.[7][8] On 7 March, the Ukrainian regional military administration of Zaporizhzhia Oblast stated that Russian forces had captured Tokmak.[9]
