Market Background

German arrivals reached an 18-year high in 2017, with over 388,000 visitors to Canada, up 5% over 2016.

With an average spend of $1,700 per trip, German travellers spend more than any of our other European markets, and stay an estimated 15 days. Nearly half of German travellers come to Canada for pleasure or recreation, though the business travel market is quickly growing.

German travellers have a high level of interest in Canada’s outdoors, hiking, nature, parks and getting off the beaten track.  They have a high level of interest in travelling to Niagara Falls in Ontario, the Rocky Mountains, British Columbia and Quebec.

60% of German visitors consult a travel agent for researching or booking their trip to Canada. Flights and accommodation for trips to Canada are booked equally with a travel agent in-person, a travel agent online, or through an online booking engine.
